About the Civic Leadership Alliance

A Word from the Founder and President

Genia Stevens Civic Leadership Alliance PresidentThe Civic Leadership Alliance is driven by a simple belief: our communities are strongest when leadership truly reflects the people it serves. Too many Black and underrepresented citizens are excluded from civic decision making. This limits perspectives, weakens trust, and slows progress. CLA exists to change that.

Our mission is to close representation gaps by preparing Black and underrepresented citizens to lead in local government. We do this by offering civic education, leadership training, and the support of strong community partnerships. These pillars create a pathway for new leaders to gain confidence, build influence, and take their rightful place in public service.

I founded CLA to expand equitable access to decision-making spaces. Every workshop, every partnership, and every leadership cohort moves us closer to a community where all voices are heard and valued. When residents understand how government works and see themselves as leaders, they become powerful agents of change.

Our vision is clear: a community where leadership reflects the people it serves. CLA is committed to making that vision real by empowering individuals who have historically been left out of civic life. Together we are building a future defined by representation, access, and shared responsibility.

Thank you for being part of this work and for believing in the leaders who will shape tomorrow.
