Local boards and committees make decisions that directly shape daily life, from housing and public safety to transportation, economic development, and neighborhood resources. These bodies influence how funds are allocated, what projects move forward, and which community priorities are addressed. When these seats are not filled by a diverse cross-section of residents, community decisions often overlook the lived experiences and needs of underrepresented groups.

CLA’s role is to ensure that Black and underrepresented residents are not only aware of these opportunities but fully prepared to serve. CLA provides civic education on how local boards operate, offers leadership training that builds confidence and readiness, and creates pathways for residents to apply, serve, and lead. By equipping new voices to participate in these decision-making spaces, CLA strengthens community representation and contributes to more equitable, inclusive leadership across Rock County.
